Born in JAN.7,1955 in Calcutta Mamata is an accomplished dancer, choreographer and actress. Having her basic training in Bharatanatyam, Manipuri and Kathakali apart from Uday Shankar style of dance at the UDAY SHANKAR INDIA CULTURE CENTRE in Calcutta under the guidance of her mother Smt. Amala Shankar, Mamata, following the footsteps of her father have imbibed that rare sense of choreography.
 

Mamata Shankar Ballet Troupe:

Mamata Shankar Ballet Troupe started in 1978. ‘Udayan’- the training centre of Mamata Shankar Ballet Troupe was initiated on Dec.8, 1986 at 21A, Hindusthan Road in the southern part of the city Calcutta. Apart from the annual performances "Udayan" also organizes a choreography competition amongst the students of the institution only, being judged by eminent Guru’s and dancer’s of Calcutta.

To be precise, "Udayan" is an institution having an aim of not only producing good dancers but also good human beings the citizens of India in the coming millennium. The institution aims to produce dancers having social awareness, basic knowledge about our rich cultural heritage, and assist the students to nurture their inherent talents.
