network of roads and national highways connect
Ooty with all major towns and cities. There are
regular bus services to and from Coimbatore,
Trichy, Bangalore, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Mysore,
Palghat, Calicut, Tirupati and other important
destinations in South India. Ooty is also well
connected with major cities of Kerala and
Karnataka.

Rail: For a magnificent view of the hillside covered
with forests, a train journey is recommended.
The Nilgiri Express leaves Madras at night and
reaches Coimbatore in the morning. It continues
to the small town of Mettupalyam, at the foots
of the mountains. From Mettupalyam, it connects
to the Nilgiri Passenger to go to Ooty.

Ooty is on the
narrow gauge railway, connected to Mettupalayam
(47 km), which is directly connected to
Coimbatore and Chennai on broad gauge. The
famous toy train connects Ooty with Mettupalayam
and Coonoor. |

Air:
The nearest
airport is Coimbatore, 105 km from Ooty, which
is connected with regular flights to and from
Bangalore, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Madurai, Madras, Mumbai and Trivandrum
by the means of by Indian Airlines.
Local Transport
Taxis, tourist cabs, auto rickshaws are
available in plenty. There are no standard rates
except tourist cabs. Town buses are also
available to all important places. Conducted
sight seeing tours are arranged by the private
operators and the Government Tourism Development
Corporation.
Ooty has taxis, three wheeler scooter rickshaws,
local buses, and during the season, guided tours
to take you around the city. Fixed prices for
