Born in London, Romola Garai lived in Hong Kong and Singapore
before her family settled back in England when she was nine. Garai began a
university English Literature degree course, but when she was offered the lead
role of Cassandra Mortmain in the BBC produced feature film I Capture the
Castle, she decided to leave school and pursue acting full time.
As a trained singer and musician, she was discovered by a talent agent for her
vocal range in a jazz band. She made her film debut in The Last of the Blonde
Bombshells (2000).
She subsequently appeared in the BBC Television series Attachments and the BBC
Masterpiece Theatre production of George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda before starring
as Kate Nickleby in Douglas McGrath's Nicholas Nickleby.
In her spare time, Garai enjoys horseback riding, singing and playing the
violin. Her aspirations include writing and directing. |
