Diaz began her carrier as a model when she was 16 years old. Her
winning modeling career took her to Japan, Australia, Morocco, and also Paris. among other locales, landed her in such magazines as Mademoiselle and Seventeen, and in advertising campaigns for such companies as Calvin Klein, Coca-Cola, and Levi’s.
In the year of 1994, Diaz got her first film role in the blockbuster action
comedy "The Mask", starring rubber-faced comic Jim Carrey. With no previous acting experience, she had originally auditioned for a
behind character in the film. After the success of The Mask, Diaz was touted as the next big thing in Hollywood and wooed by a number of
famous filmmakers to appear in their projects.
After starring opposite Ewan McGregor in the not smooth romantic comedy "A Life Less
Ordinary", Diaz made the
fly to A list Hollywood stardom with her self-assurance comic turn in the
unrepentantly simple surprise summer blockbuster There's Something About Mary, costarring Ben Stiller and Matt
Dillon.
Her next movie was set to be Mortal Kombat but Diaz injured her wrist karate
chopping her trainer's head in preparation for the role and had to back out of the movie.
Diaz returned to the big studio movies in My Best Friend's Wedding, opposite Julia Roberts. Rave reviews followed and it appeared that Diaz had made the
change from model to actress. Her next movie, "Life Less Ordinary". Diaz's seemed to corner the Hollywood market on beauties with, "There's Something About Mary".
