Angelina Jolie was raised by her mother in Palisades, New York. She began to study acting when she was eleven at the Lee Strasburg Theater Institute. She joined the Met Theatre Group in Los Angeles and appeared in five student films directed by her brother, James Haven Voight. Her first feature film debut was a part in "Lookin To Get Out", a film co written and co produced by her father. She won Golden Globe awards for her performance in the television movies "George Wallace" and "GIA". In 1999 she won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Girl" "Interrupted". Jolie has a dark reputation which is aided by her extensive collection of daggers and knives.
