| Angela Bassett got the chance on acting in 11th grade. A school field trip to the nation's capitol included a stop at a musical theatre, where Angela caught a production of "Of Mice and Men," and fell in love! She decided that acting was for her.
Angela attended Yale on a full scholarship on the pushing of a teacher from high school, where she studied
African American Studies as an undergraduate and drama as a graduate. At Yale, she made some connections that served to infiltrate her into the Broadway scene, putting her into "Black Bottom" and "Come and Gone."
Despite her incredible credits and amazing talent, Angela found her roles in Hollywood frustrating at best. She was often docked with stereotypical roles, and her first years in Hollywood rarely saw her in a role that differed from this sort of a vain. The two exceptions were roles in Boys in the Hood and Malcom X.
Finally, in 1995, all the ingredients came together. |
