Introduction : Every
year we celebrate Waitangi Day on 6th February, Waitangi Day' is a day set aside by the New Zealand Government as a
public holiday to be observed throughout the country as a national day of thanksgiving in commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of
Waitangi. This event was started in the year of 1840 by a group of Maori chiefs and the British Government, represented by Lieutenant-Governor Hobson.
On this day the Governor-General often spends the day at Waitangi. Typically, the Governor-General would attend a dawn service on the Treaty Grounds at Waitangi before
traveling to Wellington for a Waitangi Day function at Government House.
So celebrate this day and double the festivities with joy and fervor.
And wish your near and dear ones on this memorable day. |
