August 15th, 1947
is the birthday of free India. It marks for her the end of an old era, the
beginning of a new age. It's a day of freedom from the arduous British rule,
15th August is celebrated in India as Independence Day. To commemorate the
sacrifice of martyrs Indians celebrate this day to pay homage to the brave
patriots who gave Indians a reason to smile. The celebration begins in the
morning with unfurling of Indian flag at Red Fort, New Delhi. |
Flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programs
take place in all the state capitals. The Prime Minister's speech from the
precincts of the Red Fort in the capital of New Delhi is the major highlight and
is telecast live for the nation to view.
In New Delhi most of the Government Offices are
lit up. In all the cities around the country politicians belonging to that
constituency do the Flag Hoisting Ceremony.
In almost all the schools and colleges around the country, no academic work in
done on this day, as all the students and staff members gather together for the
flag hoisting ceremony and pay homage to the great men who helped in achieving
freedom from British rule.
Another interesting activity of this day is kite flying. Kite flying is very
popular amongst all ages. Children gather this day to fly tri-color kites. The
sky gets colorful with hundreds of kites symbolizing the happiness & joy this
day has brought to millions of Indians. |
