Greece got independence in 1829 from the Ottoman Empire. During the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, it gradually added neighboring islands and territories. Around 800 BC Greece had settled into a patchwork of states based on major cities likes Athens, Sparta, Thebes and Corinth among them. Emigration, caused by rising populations and lack of resources, led to the establishment of Greek cities along the coast of Asia, in Sicily and Italy and as far away as Spain.

Their agricultural products are barley, wheat, grapes, peaches, citrus, olives, figs, pomegranates, tomatoes and potatoes, cotton and tobacco.
Their manufacturing industries include food processing, textiles, chemicals and metal goods.

Greece's climate and its history are wonderful for this reason many tourists visit Greece every year.
