Valentine Day-A Love
| The
February has long been acknowledge a month of romance- St.
Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both
Christian and ancient Roman tradition. Every February, across the
country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved
ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious
saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? Several different
legends regarding St. Valentine's Day are prevailed through the
ages. One of the earliest popular symbols of the day is Cupid,
represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow, the
Roman god of love. |
 |
The history of Valentine's Day -- and
its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But So, who was Saint
Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?
Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints
named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
History of Valentine’s Day
After the death of Jesus Christ three
hundred years, Valentine, a Christian priest, had been thrown in prison
for his teachings against the Roman emperors demand for everyone
believing in the Roman gods. Not only because he was a Christian, but
also because he had performed a miracle of cureing the jailer's
daughter's blindness. On February 14, Valentine was beheaded The night
before he was executed, he sent the jailer's daughter a farewell letter
signing it "From Your Valentine." Another legend tells us that this
same Valentine, well loved by all, received notes during imprisonment
from children and friends who missed him.
Another Valentine, an Italian bishop
who lived at about the same time was imprisoned because contrary to the
laws of the Roman emperor he secretly married couples. Some legends say
he was burned at the stake.
February 14 was also observed holiday, honor of a goddess in Rome.
Young men randomly chose the name of a young girl to escort to the
festivities. The custom of choosing a sweetheart on this date spread
through Europe in the middle Ages, and then to the early American
colonies. Throughout the ages, people also believed that birds picked
their mates on February 14! In AD 496 Saint Pope Gelasius I recognized
February 14 as "Valentine's Day" first.
Whatever the stories are prevailed
behind St. Valentine's Day, it is now a day for sweethearts. It is the
day that you show your friend or loved one that you care. You can send
candy send roses, the flower of love. to someone you think is special.
Most people send "valentines," a greeting card named after the notes
that St. Valentine received in jail. Valentines can be sentimental,
romantic and heartfelt. They can be funny and friendly. Sender's
shyness is anonymous to Valentine's Day. |

VALENTINE'S
DAY GIFT
The Jewelry:
Jewelry is the quintessential Valentine's Day gift. While diamonds
may be a girl's best friend, gemstones add excitement and variety
to jewelry wardrobes. From amethysts to zircon, gemstones offer a
wide range of color and style choices
You'll find out that most gemstones are enhanced, which allows the
jewelry industry to use various forces of nature such as heat to
unlock the inherent beauty of nature residing within a gem. Most
Tanzanite, for example, comes from nature a rather drab brown. Once
subjected to mild heating, however, these stones turn handsome
shades of blue and violet.
No matter how well informed you are, when buying a gemstone, you
need to trust the seller. Jewelry Television stands by its
merchandise -- many items come with free appraisals. Since the
company focuses exclusively on the sale of fine jewelry and
gemstones, it offers a huge variety at fantastic prices. |
 |
The
appraisal process notes exact characteristics of an item and then
determines the value of that item. Gemstone quality is determined
by its beauty, rarity and durability. An appraisal determines these
factors by recoding the exact carat weight, color, clarity and
cut.
When shopping on Jewelry Television, you can purchase either loose
gemstones, which can be used in custom settings for one-of-a-kind
pieces, or you can shop for rings, earrings and necklaces that
feature your favorite gemstone.
Breakfast-in-bed:
It's all in the presentation. Make
assorted fruit, crispy toast and fresh-squeezed orange juice a
special breakfast treat by serving them with fancy china,
silverware and a brightly colored, homemade centerpiece. With just
a little fabric, ribbon and the right glue, a plain glass cylinder
can be transformed into a colorful vase for the breakfast tray. Use
it to display a Valentine bouquet or to hold cookies and treats.
Heart Cards:
Create homemade Valentines with a personal touch by gluing
embellishments such as buttons, velvet ribbon and rhinestone clips
to heart-shaped cardstock. Write a personalized note and leave them
in unexpected places, like your children's backpacks and your
co-worker's desk or briefcase. These unique Valentine surprises are
easy to make and are versatile enough to be used for greeting
cards, gift tags and place holders on a Valentine's Day dinner
table.
Chocolate:
Chocolate has been called the food of the gods; in fact, its
scientific name, Theobroma Cacao, translates to just that. The
ancient Aztecs used it as a royal aphrodisiac, and the greatest
lover of all, Casanova, believed that drinking cocoa would increase
his amorous energy and preferred it to even champagne. For
centuries men and women have equated chocolate with romance, and
that tradition is getting stronger on Valentine's Day. While
chocolate is a traditional gift for both men and women, for many
people watching their fat and sugar consumption, it's a gift that
comes with a side of guilt. This year, indulge your sweetie by
combining the gift of relaxation with the sensuousness of
chocolate. The Theobroma Cacao plant has many benefits to be
enjoyed, not just wonderful taste -- its pleasing aroma and
skin-softening properties have been celebrated by many cultures.
Enjoy chocolate with all of your senses, without worrying about
fitting into your jeans the next day.
Romantic book:
A unique and romantic gift is novel. Medieval Passion, Tropical
Treasure, Love's Next Door, Pirates of Desire, Vampire Kisses,
Western Rendezvous, are love stories full of romance, passion and
humor.
Valentine's Day gives us a chance, not only to relight the spark we
have with our special someone, but also to throw on a little
kerosene so that it burns bright for another year. Even on a tight
budget, a memorable night of romance and fantasy can be yours by
using your imagination (which is still free until someone learns
how to bottle it) and remembering this: you can be anywhere your
heart desires with the right music, the right lighting and the
right wine.
Have a happy Valentine's Day!
Just remember... Celebrate love the other 364 days too! |
